The
1st
Annual South
Florida Improv Jam (SFIJ 1)
was held on Saturday, August 24, 2002 at the
Dreamers Theatre in
downtown Coral Gables, and was hosted and created by the
Miami improv group Just The Funny.
SFIJ 1 raised $660 with proceeds from the event benefiting
The Miami Children's Hospital
Foundation.
Organized by Alex Perdomo,
Allan Forbes, and David Christopher, SFIJ 1 was the first of
its kind for the South Florida improv community, as it was
the first time local improv groups performed together on one
stage at one time.
The format of
The 1st South Florida Improv Jam
was a 90-minute show of non-competitive short form
improvisation interspersed with individual troupe improv and
sketch comedy showcases.
SFIJ 1 featured cast members
from the from area troupes Brain
Freeze, Impromedy,
Just The Funny,
Name Change Pending and
Separate Checks,
performing together in mixed cast "mini-troupes" for the
first time ever in South Florida!
SFIJ
1 was a huge success, selling out the Dreamers
Theatre to a standing room only house, with organizers
having to turn away many audience members! The real
success of the event, however, was the money raised for The
Miami Children's Hospital Foundation, and the camaraderie
and goodwill amongst the improv and sketch comedy groups
participating, leaving many with the desire to "do this
again." |
